Our Name

Paravel, named after the castle in the imaginary world of Narnia in C.S. Lewis’ famous books, was conceived as a way for Jon to showcase his passion for Petite Sirah.
The name reminds us to keep our imaginations running wild,
even as our feet stay firmly planted on the ground.

Our Vineyard

Well-positioned at an altitude of 1930 feet, Paravel's Estate Vineyard sits on an east-facing slope of a wide, dry swale of pine forest dotted with California Black Oaks, Madrone trees and some of Napa Valley's premier vineyards. Daytime sun exposure is long. Real long.

The soil composition is aiken cobbly loam, porous tuff of consolidated volcanic ash, dotted on the surface with forest debris like pine needles, oak leaves and acorns. Rootstock was planted July 2016 and was grafted to Petite Sirah June 2017.

Our Appellation

Because it is above the fog, the Howell Mountain Appellation stays warmer in the evening and cooler in the daytime than the valley floor. Our vines' buds break later, and our grapes tend to hang longer, an appellation well-suited for the patient perfectionist.

Paravel is a proud member of the Howell Mountain Vintners & Growers Association. Visit howellmountain.org to see what kind of company we keep.
